2) Bonus 12 questions:

After attempting all the 130 questions, a candidate has an option of attempting 12 extra questions, 3 from each of the above sections, in order to improve his/her scores. Once the candidate opts to attempt these extra questions, they won’t be able to return to any of the earlier 130 questions.

High-Yield Topics to Prioritize:

The subject-wise high-yield topics that require more attention than others are provided below:

I) Physics:  Electrostatics and Capacitors, Magnetism and moving   charges, photoelectric effect, nuclear physics, atomic models. Semiconductors, ray optics, SHM and Waves.

II) Chemistry: Physical Chemistry- Mole concept, Thermodynamics, Chemical kinetics; Organic Chemistry- Hydrocarbons, Alcohol, phenols, ether, amines; Inorganic Chemistry- Periodic table trends, Chemical bonding, p-block elements, d and f-block elements.

III) Mathematics: Calculus, Vectors and 3D geometry, Complex numbers, Probability, Coordinate Geometry, Binomial Theorem

IV) English language- Synonyms, antonyms, error spotting, sentence correction, Reading Comprehension, Para Jumbles

V) Logical Reasoning- Figure series, Pattern Recognition, Coding-Decoding, Seating arrangement, logical deduction, syllogisms

Structured 2-week Preparation Strategy:

Daily study routine should involve rapid revision of all the subjects, focussing on high-yield topics and intensive revision through practising mock tests and PYQs. Following strategies and tips can be adopted in the last 2-weeks for  streamlining your preparation in better efficient ways:

Focus on High-yield topics: The last two weeks should be spent in reinforcing high-yield topics.

For example, in Physics focus on electrodynamics, electrostatistics, in Chemistry focus on Periodic table trends, chemical bonding and thermodynamics, etc.

Intensive mock tests and PYQs practice: Keep practising mock tests and PYQs and conduct  post-test analysis after every test, that helps you identify the mistakes and preparation gap and work towards minimizing it

• Rapid Revision of NCERTs: Rapidly go through your NCERTs and skim over all the important concepts and topics.

For example, for Chemistry, focus on organic and inorganic chemistry

• Use smart revision techniques: Revise formulas of Physics, short notes and flashcards. Allocate 30-40 minutes daily in revising these formulas and short study notes.

• Improve time management, speed and accuracy: BITSAT rewards accuracy, not knowledge. Try to attempt the familiar questions rather than the hard ones. Give time-bound papers so as to manage time, speed and enhance your scoring-potential.

14-Day Phase Wise Study Plan:

Phase I (Revision of High-Yield Topics) Day 1-5:

  • Thoroughly revise high yield topics in all the major subjects in the BITSAT syllabus

  • In Physics, practice optics, thermodynamics, electrostatics, magnetism, etc.

  • In Chemistry, revise mole concept, organic chemistry, hydrocarbons, chemical bonding, periodic table, etc.

  • In Maths, focus in vectors, 3D, determinants, matrices, integrals, derivatives, etc.

Phase II (Consolidation/Practice) Day 6-11:

  • This phase involves intensive practice of mock tests and post-test analysis. Divide your daily schedule into following phases:

i) Morning- Full-length mock tests of each subject on alternate days.

ii) Afternoon- Conduct a thorough 2-3 hours of post-test analysis where you will identify the errors made and scope of improvement in the main subjects.

iii) Evening-   Quick revision of weaker areas and brushing through important formulas and short notes

Phase III (Final Mock test revision) Day 12-14:

  • The final phase should be utilized for light mock tests and section-wise revision.

  • Morning should be spent in giving mock test, followed in the afternoon by its thorough post-test analysis, and the evening spent on revising weak areas and bridging the gap of preparation

  • Rapidly go through formulas, short notes, flashcards or error notebooks for revising the weak topics

  • Maintain calm and composure as mental equilibrium is important for top-notch performance on exam day.

Top Hacks to secure 300+ score:

i) The 75-second Rule: This is an effective time-management technique that enhances your scoring efficiency and accuracy rate within the given time constraints. In this technique, a student allocates 75 seconds to finding possible answers to a question. If the 75 second time limit in finding the solution is exceeded, the question should be skipped and a candidate must move to the next question. This not only prevents wastage of precious time on single question but improves a candidate’s  strike rate by enabling them to answer familiar and known questions.

ii) Master the art of skipping and elimination: Elimination and skipping are the one of the most effective exam strategies for maximizing your scores. Strike out all the implausible solutions through elimination and choose the one that closely matches with the question. On the other hand, skipping questions with moderate to high level of difficulty helps you avoid falling in the trap of negative marking and improves scoring efficiency through less wastage of time on a single question.

iii) Smart revision through formulas and short notes: Allocate one hour daily for effective revision through important formulas, short notes, flashcards and error notebooks.

Common Pitfalls to avoid in BITSAT Preparation:

Following are some of the common pitfalls that must be avoided during BITSAT preparation:

i)  Starting a new topic- Avoid beginning any new topic in the final 15 days before the exam. Beginning a new topic creates unnecessary pressure and anxiety and can make you forget all the topics you have studied before.

ii) Reserving English and LR for last week- English and Logical Reasoning are important sections which must not be ignored during preparation. Allocate at least 1-2 hours daily for revising important topics in English and Logical Reasoning.

iii) Not practising in time-bound manner: Aspirants must practice mock tests in a time bound manner so as to improve speed, accuracy and time management skills, all of which are important for success in any competitive exam.

iv) Lack of formula revision: Questions in BITSAT, especially for Physics and Maths, are mostly formula-driven. Students must not neglect revising formulas before the exam which are important for increasing their strike rate.

v) Not doing proper post-test analysis: Every mock test should be followed by thorough post-test analysis of 1-2 hours. It enables you to identify the gaps in preparation and the errors and mistakes committed during the tests and rectify them immediately.

vi) Not taking NCERT seriously for chemistry: NCERTs form  the backbone for preparation of Chemistry, especially inorganic chemistry. Neglecting it can be self-damaging. It is better, therefore, to thoroughly revise NCERTs for maximizing your scoring potential.

Conclusion:

The last two weeks before the BITSAT exam requires aspirants to combine smart, effective strategy involving rapid revision, intensive practice of mock tests and PYQs  and studying from short notes with maintaining mental composure for securing your desirable ranks and scores in the BITSAT exam.
