Have you ever wondered what happens after we die? Hinduism follows the belief in rebirth or Punar Janam, Karma and the Soul. Let us explore what this means.
Punar janam translates to rebirth, or being born again. Hindu scriptures explain the concept of soul or atman. It goes on to explain that when the body dies, the soul leaves and takes a new body. The new body can be of an animal or remain a human.
The Gita says that rebirth happens because of Karma. Karma is the result of all the good and bad doings in a lifetime. Karma is the result of our duties, or Dharma. Every action has a result, and sometimes, we don’t get the results right away. So, the soul is born again and again to experience the results of their actions and grow through life lessons.
According to the Vedas and Puranas, all living things including animals and insects also go through the process of rebirth. Being born as a human is considered very special because it gives us the chance to learn about God and try to break free from this cycle.
The ultimate goal in the process of rebirth is to achieve Moksha. Moksha is breaking free from this continuous cycle. One receives moksha when they have learned all the life lessons they had to learn . After learning all the lessons, you become one with the divine.
The Vedas talk about life after death and the soul's journey. The Upanishads say that most of us don't remember our past lives, but the soul keeps memory and learns from each past life. The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad tells us the soul moves on to the next life and always seeks happiness or truth.
In conclusion, punar janam, or rebirth, means that the soul gets a new body after death, according to what it did in life. The Gita, Vedas, and Upanishads all tell us that we need to be careful about our actions and Our ultimate aim should be that we live well enough that at the end the soul is free and at peace.
